Statement of Roy Thilly on the Clean Energy Jobs Act

01.07.10

The Clean Energy Jobs Act implements the broad consensus reached by Governor Doyle's Global Warming Task Force. It will strengthen our energy security, help Wisconsin remain competitive, meet the challenges of climate change and promote a clean energy economy.

Climate change is without a doubt one of our generation’s most important policy challenges. Our goal must be to lessen our contributions to climate change while protecting our economy and providing reliable energy. To do so, we must stop wasting energy, develop clean generation and enable our citizens and businesses to make good choices. Smart management invests in the future. This bill will put Wisconsin ahead of the curve.

This bill captures the spirit of the Task Force consensus. We must now work to ensure it captures the letter. I look forward to continuing to work with the former Task Force members, legislators and Governor Doyle as this bill winds its way through the legislative process.
